Migrants continue search for loved ones following English Channel tragedy

Migrants are still searching for missing friends and families, days after 27 people died trying to cross the English Channel

The International Organisation for Migrations says it is the biggest single loss of life in the Channel since it began collecting data in 2014.

Their deaths have raised series questions about why so many people are attempting the journey despite the dangerous conditions, and how to tackle the problem.

It comes as UK Home Secretary Priti Patel warns that failure by European counter-parts to co-operate on the migrant crisis will lead to “even worse scenes” in the Channel.

France is hosting German, Belgian and Dutch ministers and European Commission officials for talks this week.

But Ms Patel was un-invited from the summit after a row between Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Future Plans

Colbert’s show will not have a replacement. CBS stated the cancellation stems from financial challenges in the late-night landscape, asserting it is unrelated to the show’s content or performance.

Reports indicate CBS’s parent, Paramount, is negotiating an $8.4 billion merger with Skydance Media, pending approval from the Federal Communications Commission. Recently, Paramount also settled a lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump regarding a CBS interview with Kamala Harris.

In response to his show’s cancellation, Colbert expressed offence and critiqued the situation on air.

Despite the cancellation, Nielsen ratings show Colbert has maintained strong viewership with over 2.4 million viewers, and his show has been nominated for another Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show.
