Russell Brand guilty of rape and sexual assault

Russell Brand found guilty of rape and sexual assault, faced with significant jail time and further police investigations

Russell Brand’s bail has been revoked following a guilty verdict for rape and three sexual assault charges.

He was acquitted of three other charges.

UK police are probing additional rape allegations by two other women.

Brand, 51, faces a significant jail sentence after a London court ruling.

Brace for sentencing

The trial at Southwark Crown Court involved accusations by six women between 1999 and 2009, as earlier reported by abc.net.au.

A jury found Brand guilty of rape and three sexual assaults.

The rape involved a fan he met after a 2009 show, with further allegations of unconsented advances.

Guilty verdicts also cover assaults related to encounters in 2004 and 2009.

Brand was acquitted of two rape counts and attempted indecent assault.

He denied the offences, claiming past promiscuity but never non-consensual acts.

Judge Joel Bennathan stated a significant custodial sentence is inevitable.

Brand remained emotionless during the verdict, as his wife Laura cried.

He was remanded in custody, given thumbs up and ok gestures when denied bail.

Brand will be sentenced on Monday.

Previously, a high-profile comedian, the trial depicted him as a “manipulative predator”.

All six accusers provided evidence, remaining anonymous, testifying separately.

Additional investigations concern alleged rapes of two more women.

Police continue inquiries, with no charges presently laid.

Authorities praised the courage of the women involved in the trial.

Russell Brand’s influence and power were reportedly used exploitatively.

The UK Crown Prosecution Service called him “predatory”.
