UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face no further police action or fines as the nation’s police officially close the Downing Street partygate investigation

Johnson and his wife were each issued with 50 pound Fixed Penalty Notices for breaching Covid laws, when they celebrated the PM’s birthday at Downing Street during lockdown.

The Met Police say the inquiry into lockdown breaches in and around the Prime Minister’s official residence has now ended.

126 fines were issued to 83 people for a series of eight events held during the nation’s most strict Covid lockdown.

It was expected Johnson would be fined again, as calls grew for the leader to stand down.

Nonetheless, Opposition parties are continuing their calls for Johnson to resign, with Keir Starmer saying the prime minister is “responsible for the culture” in Downing Street.

Johnson’s spokesperson says the PM is is pleased that the investigation is concluded, and has thanked the Met for their work.

Police examined 510 photographs, CCTV images, emails, building logs, diary entries and witness statements.

Crude oil surges 7% amid fears of Middle East conflict; Strait of Hormuz disruptions may push Brent over $100.

Crude oil prices spiked dramatically as investors react to the growing risk of a wider conflict in the Middle East. U.S. crude surged 7.2 percent, trading near $71.84 a barrel, signalling heightened concern across energy markets.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping chokepoint, has come under intense scrutiny. Rising war-risk insurance premiums and suspended tanker traffic are already slowing the movement of oil, creating ripple effects in global supply chains.

JPMorgan has warned that prolonged disruptions over three weeks could force Gulf producers to reduce output, potentially pushing Brent crude prices to between $100 and $120 a barrel. Markets are closely watching for developments that could reshape global energy pricing.
