The military operation was allegedly carried out by armed forces and foreign fighters to kill suspected members of armed Islamic groups.

Human Rights Watch says the massacre is the “worst single atrocity” in Mali’s decade-long conflict.

Last week, Mali’s defence ministry said 203 terrorists were killed during a military operation.

Locals saymany armed foreigners, believed to be Russians, were taking part in military operations in and around central Mali.
