Why France is turning to nuclear energy

Published

on

France has announced it will be building more nuclear reactors to reduce its energy dependence on foreign countries

Recently, the President pledged to reduce France’s use of nuclear energy from 75% to 50% by 2035, but Macron has since shifted his views due to pressure from the global energy shortage.

Macron says “we are going, for the first time in decades, to relaunch the construction of nuclear reactors and continue to develop renewable energies”.

He says nuclear energy will help to maintain energy at a reasonable price.

The exact dates are still unclear but the French government is expected to announce 6 new pressurised water reactors over the coming weeks.
