The Chinese Government is striving to ensure sufficient food supplies, as the nation heads into winter.

The state is pushing local authorities to ensure a constant supply and stable prices.

Unusually heavy rains have caused vegetable prices to surge, raising concerns over food prices and worrying officials in Beijing.

Local authorities have been encouraged to begin purchasing vegetables that can be stored well in advance, and also strengthen emergency delivery networks.

The Chinese Government is also ramping up its efforts to reduce the amount of grain lost at harvest, and food wasted in kitchens across the country.
