The power struggle between the EU and Elon Musk’s newly re-invened Twitter has reached a new low.

This time it comes down to content moderation.

Musk has slashed thousands of staffers around the world — including many people responsible for removing hateful speech.

He says that he’s going to get the same job done with user volunteers and AI technology, arguing it’s efficient, faster, and cheaper.

The Financial Times reports the billionaire has been told to hire more human moderators and fact-checkers to review posts.

Twitter need to be fully compliant with Digital Services Act by September — or they could be on the hook for six per cent of its global turnover.

The relationship between Twitter and the EU is always in flux.

On the day Musk took control of the company he tweeted “The bird is Freed” — but the European Internal Markets commission was quick to fire back: “In Europe, the bird flys by our rules.”
