SpaceX plans $100 billion spaceport in Louisiana to support thousands of launches and create 10,000 jobs
Elon Musk’s SpaceX is set to develop a $100 billion spaceport in Louisiana.The facility, named Starbase, Louisiana, will be established in Vermilion Parish to support thousands of launches annually.
Starbase will primarily serve as the main launch site for SpaceX’s Starship, the largest rocket ever built.
This project aligns with Musk’s goal to expand the Starlink satellite network and pursue plans for Mars colonisation.
Following the announcement, SpaceX’s shares increased by 2.5%.
SpaceX’s video stated that site selection for launch pads will bring approximately 10,000 jobs to Louisiana.
The company will collaborate on coastal restoration efforts in Louisiana to enhance environmental sustainability.
SpaceX has faced criticism and legal challenges due to environmental concerns at its Boca Chica launch site in Texas.
In April 2023, a Starship test flight resulted in significant damage and raised safety concerns due to a concrete explosion.
Earlier violations of the Clean Water Act occurred at the Texas facility due to improper water management practices.
Musk’s business expansion includes moves from California to several southern states, with Louisiana now being the fourth launch site.
SpaceXAI is building data centers in Greater Memphis, alongside other projects involving Tesla and Intel in Texas.
