Is the U.S fuelling tensions between Russia and Ukraine?

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate as Russia increases its military presence on the border

Ukraine warns that an attack from Russia could come as early as January.

The US is considering sending over military advisers and new equipment to Ukraine to protect the country from a potential invasion.

The lethal aid package proposed by the Biden administration could provide the nation with new anti-tank and anti-armour missiles as well as mortars.

Equipment that was meant for Afghanistan may now be transferred to the former Soviet country including missiles, air defence systems and military helicopters.

But some people within the Biden administration are against the idea of the US getting involved in Ukraine, concerned that Russia may see the intervention as a major escalation only “further heightening tensions”.

A Kremlin spokesman says supplying Ukraine with equipment only “leads to further aggravation of the situation on the border line”.
