China will build a $3 billion supercomputing centre by the end of the year to analyse data from space.

The centre will be built ‘s in China’s southern space port of Wenchang.

With a planned investment of 20 billion yuan ($3.1 billion), the supercomputing centre will provide big data services.

China wants to build a massive constellation of commercial satellites that can offer services including high-speed internet.

Earlier this month, the government announced plans for the commercial space base in Hainan.

The government also supports Hainan in its international cooperation on launching commercial satellites and payloads, and research and development in commercial spaceflight.
