They work by connecting to iPhones and iPads via Bluetooth and can detect approximate locations.

The California lawsuit accuses Apple of negligence, design defects, and privacy violations.

It follows a number of similar complaints from women who have found AirTags hidden in their vehicles.

The AirTags were designed to be used to keep track of belongings like keys and luggage.

Police say the charges can increase if the crime causes the victim anxiety and depression or if stalking is involved.
