Mariah Carey, the iconic singer behind the beloved holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” finds herself embroiled in a renewed legal battle.

The festive anthem, a perennial favourite during the holiday season, is now at the centre of a copyright lawsuit.

The lawsuit alleges that Carey, along with her co-writer Walter Afanasieff, unlawfully borrowed elements from a song titled “Christmas Is All Around,” written by songwriter Richard Young.

Young claims that the melodies and lyrics of Carey’s hit bear a striking resemblance to his original composition.

This isn’t the first time “All I Want for Christmas Is You” has faced legal scrutiny. In 2017, Carey was accused of copyright infringement, but the case was dismissed. However, this new lawsuit has breathed new life into the legal dispute.

Carey’s legal team has vehemently denied the allegations, citing the song’s widespread popularity and critical acclaim as evidence of its originality.
