Belgium, Estonia, Bulgaria have all officially banned Russian ships from entering their waters

This follows the European Union banning Russian ships from entering ports from April 9, as per the fifth package of sanctions implemented against Moscow.

It comes at the same time Russia was banned from buying, importing or transferring coal and other fossil fuels to the EU.

Belgian authorities say the restrictions will prevent over 6,000 ships from entering the nation’s waters.

The ban will also to ships that changed their flags to another nationality after Putin’s invasion.

The only exception to the new regulation will be if a ship is in distress, in which case it must seek express permission to enter European waters.
