Microplastics have been found in human lungs for the first time, amid increasing concern for the impacts on health

Scientists are pushing for greater pollution management, as microsplastic has now spread across the entire planet, meaning exposure is unavoidable.

The most common particle was polypropylene, which is commonly used in plastic packaging, pipes and bottles.

The particles can travel around the body and lodge in organs, but the impact on health is as yet unknown.

This comes after microplastics were found in human blood for the first time in March.
