Platinum Jubilee: Queen celebrates 70 years on the throne

Queen Elizabeth has celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, meeting in a face to face event in the UK at her Sandringham estate to mark 70 years on the throne

Charles led the flowing tributes, noting his mother’s “remarkable achievement” of seven decades at the head of the Commonwealth.

The 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth released a statement saying she looks forward to the year of her Platinum Jubilee with optimism.

In her message, Elizabeth the Second officially grants her permission for Camilla to be known as Queen Consort when Charles becomes King.

“It is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service,”

She says.

Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt told the Press Association says Queen Elizabeth is future-proofing an institution she’s served for 70 years.

“This is the most extraordinary message. The Queen is ensuring the transition, when it comes, to her son as King is as seamless and trouble-free as possible,’’

he says.

The Queen is the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, but even after 70 years on the throne, there is no sign she will be stepping aside.

Her reign began when she was just 25 years old in 1952, when her father George passed away.

Now 95, the monarch says she is eternally grateful for the loyalty and affection the world has given her.

Threads, the social media platform owned by Meta, is gaining traction with a surge in daily active users, outpacing X in the U.S.

While X still boasts 550 million monthly active users globally, Threads’ focus on user experience and avoidance of real-time and political content could position it as a formidable competitor moving forward.
