19 killed in New York City apartment fire

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has just addressed the public following the deadly Brox apartment fire which has already taken 19 lives

Adams says authorities believe the blaze stemmed from a space heater, but the investigation is continuing.

It’s being called one of the worst fire disasters in the city’s history, with at least 32 others hospitalised.

The death toll currently stands at 19, but authorities warn it could rise, with a number of people suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Over 200 firefighters responded to the blaze in an attempt to bring it under control, reportedly finding victims on every floor, taking many out in cardiac arrest.

Dramatic vision posted to social media show fire gushing out of multiple windows, with the fire department first called from multiple residents on upper floors just before 11am.

The fire has since been put out.
