Police investigating if recycled ammo was used in Rust shooting

Police investigating the on-set shooting at the filming location of Rust are looking into whether recycled ammunition was used

Authorities who are investigating the fatal shooting on the set of Rust are looking at whether recycled ammunition may have been used.

Authorities are concerned that live ammunition made its way into a stash of dummy bullets on the set of the film in New Mexico.

New documents include a search warrant for the premises of a local supplier of ammunition and movie props.

The supplier told police he suspected that the live bullets may have been “reloaded ammunition” that he got previously from a friend.

Reloaded ammunition is made up of recycled components, including bullets.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was wounded when a gun was safe fired by actor Alec Baldwin in October.

No criminal charges have been filed.
