Singapore has now fully vaccinated 80% of its entire population against Covid-19, but the PM says that its Covid strategy isn’t sustainable

Singapore’s Prime Minister has admitted that a zero-covid strategy is not sustainable even with long lockdowns. This comes as the nation records an 80% vaccination rate – one of the world’s highest.

The nation is currently under strict border controls and social distancing measures. However, the government says it’s preparing for Covid-19 to become an endemic. That is, for the nation to become accustomed to living with the virus.

With this in mind, the PM says the nation will reopen “cautiously” and “step-by-step”. He said that the vaccination will allow Singapore to “live with the virus” and become “Covid-resilient”.

“It is no longer possible to bring cases down to zero, even if locked down for a long time”
