It comes as Democrats prepare to launch a major fight against Republican lawmakers and major pharmaceutical companies over plans to include drug pricing measures in the $3.5 billion budget package.

Biden wants the nation’s Medicare to be able to negotiate prices with big pharma, saying “this is another area where lawmakers can come together and make a difference in people’s lives.”

This follows the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee also drafting his own version of drug pricing laws – which will likely be less dramatic than Biden’s plans, in a bid to gain every Democratic vote in the tightly-held Senate.

Progressive party members were becoming increasingly concerned that Biden was moving away from his commitment to addressing drug pricing… after it was left out of America’s Families Plan earlier in the year.

However, this recent announcement has energised the movement… with Biden saying affordable health care should be available to everyone…
