Erin Patterson’s appeal denied; likely to die in jail for mushroom poisonings of three relatives
The Court of Appeal’s decision suggests Patterson is likely to spend the remainder of her life in prison.
Last year, she was sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 33 years for the murders of Don and Gail Patterson and Heather Wilkinson, as well as the attempted murder of Wilkinson’s husband, Ian.
Sentence upheld
Patterson’s appeal was based on seven grounds, with the court dismissing five.
The two remaining grounds were heard but ultimately resulted in dismissal.
During the video link proceedings from the women’s prison, Patterson appeared unfazed upon the announcement of the decision.
It remains uncertain if her legal team will pursue further challenges in the High Court.
Patterson is currently detained in the maximum security wing of the Dame Phyllis Frost women’s prison.
