Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate are contesting extradition to the United Kingdom on charges of rape and sex trafficking.Their lawyer informed a U.S. magistrate in Miami that the brothers were arrested and currently held in federal detention.

Extradition fight

The U.S. district judge will soon review whether extradition conditions are satisfied.

During the hearing, the Tates appeared in tan jail uniforms and handcuffs.

Lawyer Joseph McBride condemned the charges as “filth and slander” and expressed confidence in a successful extradition denial.

A hearing is scheduled for next Monday.

British prosecutors indicated that new charges arose from evidence provided by Bedfordshire Police and involve four new victims, covering incidents from 2010 to 2017.

Accusations include rape, assault, trafficking, and offences concerning indecent images of children and extreme pornography.

Currently, they face existing charges linked to three alleged victims in the U.K. between 2012 and 2015.

McBride asserted that their arrests were initiated by a low-level Justice Department official but the Justice Department stated that leadership approved the arrests.

The ongoing legal saga transcends borders, involving the U.S., Britain, and Romania, with the brothers consistently denying the allegations.

International saga

The Tates, who promote wealth and male dominance through social media, have become polarising figures.

In 2016, the brothers relocated to Romania and were arrested there in 2022 for luring women for sexual exploitation, which they deny.

Due to legal issues, the Romanian case has not progressed.

They were permitted to leave Romania last year, subsequently travelling to Florida.
