Xi, Albanese discuss strengthening Australia-China relations

Chinese President Xi Jinping signals the importance of “great care” in maintaining Australia’s recently improved relationship.

This was the third formal meeting between the leaders in just over two years.

Xi acknowledged the “twists and turns” that had previously strained relations, resulting in significant deterioration over time.

He noted that the current turnaround has brought tangible benefits to both nations, thanks to their collective efforts.

Xi expressed a desire to work with Albanese to enhance their comprehensive strategic partnership and increase stability in the region.

Albanese welcomed the renewed trade relations, highlighting China’s lifting of a ban on Australian lobster, which marked the end of $22 billion in tariffs imposed in response to Australia’s national security measures.
