UK warns companies against using Russian anti-virus software

Published

on

There are fresh fears about the risk of using Russian technology as Putin’s country is further isolated from the West

The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre has pushed for organisations to consider alternatives for Russian tech including anti-virus software.

Germany is amongst the countries considering replacing Kaspersky anti-virus a popular software although experts have said it is mostly safe to use.

The firm has responded to these warnings from Germany, insisting that they were “made on political grounds”.

This isn’t the first time that Kaspersky has been under fire, with the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre warning government departments against using their products in 2017.

Although there is no evidence that the Russian state intends to exploit Russian commercial products and services to cause damage to UK interests, the Security Centre is warning that “the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.”
