U.S. blocks Iranian ports as Tehran promises retaliation amid escalating tensions over oil prices and nuclear deal negotiations

Trump noted that despite the tensions, Iran has expressed interest in negotiations, although he remains firm against allowing Iran to possess a nuclear weapon.

The geopolitical strain has driven oil prices above $100 per barrel amid fears that the Strait of Hormuz may not reopen soon, causing significant supply disruptions.

“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” Trump stated, highlighting the importance of preventing Iran from exerting influence over global markets.

Since military actions began on February 28, Iran has taken control over the Strait of Hormuz, allowing passage based on its own terms and enforcing tolls.

Trump indicated that the U.S. would prevent Iranian vessels and those paying the tolls from passing through, threatening to eliminate any Iranian military presence near the blockade zone.

Brigadier General Reza Talaei-Nik cautioned that international military actions to enforce the blockade could lead to heightened instability and impact global energy security.

NATO allies, including Britain and France, have opted out of participating in the blockade, advocating instead for the reopening of the strait, which is vital for global oil transport.
