Activists say they were there to peacefully protest an “anti-trans” speech being made by Mark Latham

Two people have been arrested after protesters clashed outside a church in the city’s south-west, where controversial figure Mark Latham was giving a speech.

LGBTQI+ activists Community Action for Rainbow Rights claim members were attacked and pelted with rocks and bottles by a group who met them outside St Michael’s Church.

The activist group says it was there to peacefully protest an “anti-trans” speech being made by Latham.

Latham is the leader of the conservative political party, One Nation in New South Wales.

The political figure has since taken to social media to condemn the “violence”, saying it is unacceptable.

He says he was invited to speak at an event, where he discussed religious freedom, parental rights, education and “protecting schools from Alphabet Activism.”
