PayPal’s crypto services go global

Published

Paypal is launching a new service to allow UK customers to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrencies

UK customers can buy, hold and sell cryptocurrencies using their PayPal wallet or app. The service will include crypto coins such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ether.

The move marks the first international expansion of crypto services beyond the US.

Paypal is one of the largest mainstream financial platforms to offer access to crypto, with over 403 million active accounts worldwide.

The company launched the service to buy and sell crypto in the US earlier this year

Jose Fernandez da Ponte, vice president and general manager for blockchain, crypto and digital currencies at PayPal says this signals a changing environment.

“We are committed to continue working closely with regulators in the UK, and around the world, to offer our support— and meaningfully contribute to shaping the role digital currencies will play in the future of global finance and commerce,” he said.

Customers will be able to buy bitcoin, ether, litecoin and bitcoin cash through their PayPal wallets online or on the mobile app.
