Republican Nikki Haley has officially launched her campaign for president of the United States, calling on Americans to reject the “stale ideas and faded names of the past” and to put their faith in a “new generation” of political leaders.

This is Haley’s first public appearance since declaring her candidacy, with the 51-year-old casting herself as an agent of change.

Speaking to a roaring crowd, she says the U.S. is a nation gripped by “doubt, division and self-destruction”.

Haley has a vision for a country that is “strong and proud, not weak and woke”.

If elected, she is vowing to impose term limits for members of Congress and “mental competency tests” for politicians over the age of 75.

This includes both Joe Biden, who is 80, and Donald Trump, who is 76.

A daughter of Indian immigrants, Haley was raised in a small South Carolina town.

She blamed Biden and vice president Kamala Harris for promoting a culture of “self-loathing”, warning this is a “virus more dangerous than any pandemic”.

It’s a a tough road ahead for Haley, but the newest presidential candidate promises she is up for the job.
