Iran says the U.S. is delaying its nuclear deal

Iran has reportedly put forward a “written response” to restore its nuclear deal with world powers

Iran’s state-run media says nuclear proposals by European leaders will not be accepted, despite warnings there will be no more offers on the table.

President Ebrahim Raisi is blaming Washington for the delay in reaching a deal.

“The Americans are procrastinating and there is inaction from the European sides… America and Europe need an agreement more than Iran,” says Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani.

But the U.S. is firing back by saying there were “unacceptable demands” going beyond the 2015 nuclear deal.

“The notion that we have delayed this negotiation in any way is just not true,” says U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price.

U.S. authorities maintain a deal was on the cards two weeks ago because of flexibility on Iran’s behalf.

Price noted the U.S. was pleased when Iran dropped its demands and exchanges around the deal.

One of these demands was reportedly the removal of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from the U.S. terrorist watchlist.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is requesting Tehran releases Iranian-Americans held on security charges.
