Apple’s new feature to stop AirTag tracking misuse

Published

Apple plans to introduce a number of changes to make it harder to misuse AirTags

The button-sized devices are designed to track lost items but have been misused to track people.

The company said its changes to the device will make suspicious tags easier to find and alert users earlier that an AirTag may be travelling with them.

Apples popular AirTags is innovative and super helpful when used correctly, but there are concerns regarding its surveillance and tracking network impacting billions.

Apple AirTags and ‘Find My’ app only work because of a tracking network that we could all be involved in without knowing.

Apple unveils AirTag, in this still image from the keynote video of a special event at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, U.S. released April 20, 2021. Apple Inc.

So what is the airtag?

Its a small device that can be attached to personal items like keys, wallets or luggage.

The tag then sends messages that can be used to track its location.

This sounds clearly pretty useful but AirTags can also be misused.

Amazon has limited sales of morning-after pills as demand spikes following the U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning abortion rights

There’s now a limit of three Plan-B units per week on emergency contraceptive pills sold through its website.

They aren’t the first to limit pills, many U.S retailers are capping purchases of emergency contraceptive pills.

Demand has surged following last week’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade and ending the constitutional right to have an abortion.

Social media is flooding with calls to stock up on Plan B in anticipation of possible restrictions on contraceptive pills.

Amazon is one of several retailers to put curbs on morning after pills

A review of emergency contraceptive pills sold on Amazon showed varying quantity limits.

A listing for Plan B, a popular brand of the drug Levonorgestrel, showed purchases were capped at three products per shopper.

Meanwhile, one listing for a generic version of the drug, called My Choice, allowed users to purchase up to 30 units.

Walmart said many of the chain’s products have online purchase limits that can change “during times of fluctuating demand.”

Walgreens said purchases of emergency contraceptive pills were not being limited.

Emergency contraceptive pills, often referred to as “morning after pills” and sold under the Plan B brand, can be purchased over-the-counter and without an ID or prescription.

A Chinese spacecraft has captured images of Mars circling around the planet over 13 hundred times

The crewless shuttle reached the Red Planet early last year… deploying a robotic rover.

Some of the photos captured the south pole… a first for China.

The area is known for its large water reserve… hidden under the south pole ice, which was detected by the European Space Agency’s orbiting probe.

Water is a key element in determining whether a planet has the potential for life.

Other images include a 4,000 kilometre long canyon and impact craters in the north of Mars.

No more AirBNB parties. Ever

AirBNB has announced an end to house parties forever, in a move that will impact operations around the world

Airbnb announced a global ban on parties following a temporary restriction it put on parties two years ago at the start of the pandemic.

The company is permanently banning “disruptive parties and events,” which include open-invite gatherings.

“Party houses,” will stay banned as well. That will put an end to people booking a house for a big party for just one night.

Airbnb has struggled with party houses, given the noise caused often leads to a visit by the police.

Airbnb placed a ban on party houses in 2019 after five people were killed in a shooting at one of its bookings.

That was followed by a global ban on party houses just as the pandemic hit.

Airbnb says it has seen a 44% year-over-year drop in the rate of party reports since introducing the ban.

“The temporary ban has proved effective, and today we are officially codifying the ban as our policy,” the company says.

The party continues

But how successful will the ban be?

Guests can sometimes check in to remote properties themselves while the owner is away and can invite as many people over as they want.

Airbnb says guests who attempt to violate its rules will face consequences varying from account suspension to full removal from the platform.
