Apple delays standard iPhone 18 to spring 2027

New iPhone timeline

The decision to split the launch arises from having six models, up from four in 2023. According to Michael Burkhardt of 9to5Mac, the new iPhone Ultra leads to an overcrowded launch event if released together.

Supply chain issues have also influenced the decision, with a Nikkei Asia report referencing a supplier’s emphasis on “supply chain smoothness.” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman speculates that the keynote may occur on September 8 or 9, with pre-orders starting on September 11 and sales on September 18.

The iPhone 18 Pro may introduce Apple’s in-house C2 modem, reducing reliance on Qualcomm. Leaked documents indicate that Qualcomm may be limited to U.S. models as the C2 chips are deployed internationally.

CEO Cristiano Amon cautioned that Qualcomm anticipates a more rapid decline in revenue from Apple products due to supply constraints.

The iPhone Ultra’s release, starting above $2,000, marks Apple’s entry into the foldable market. Production challenges do pose questions about a simultaneous launch, but reports suggest the Ultra remains on target for its fall release.
