Senior Russian commander killed in Kyiv operation

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, senior Russian commander, killed in Moscow; Ukraine claims responsibility amid escalating conflict and targeted operations.

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, a high-ranking Russian commander, was killed in Moscow, marking a significant event since the Ukraine war began.

Kirillov was the head of Russia’s Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Troops.

He and his assistant died outside a residential building, with Ukrainian officials attributing the operation to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

Kyiv has targeted Russian military leaders and military sites in efforts to gain strategic advantage in the ongoing war. Ukrainian forces have reportedly used drones and explosives for these operations.

Russian authorities labeled Kirillov’s death as a terrorist act.

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of Russia’s Security Council, condemned the attack and demanded retribution, holding the Ukrainian leadership accountable.

Chemical weapons

The SBU had named Kirillov as a suspect in war crimes for allegedly ordering the use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine. They reported over 4,800 instances of chemical weapon use attributed to his orders.

Russia has denied allegations of violating chemical weapon bans.

The attack was captured on video, showing two individuals near the scene before the explosion occurred. Investigators stated a video camera in a nearby car monitored Kirillov.

Airbus faces manufacturing issues with A320 fuselage panels, impacting shares but confirming safety for in-service aircraft.

Airbus is confronting a fresh manufacturing issue after discovering a quality defect in several dozen fuselage panels used on A320-family jets. The revelation sparked investor concern, with shares falling by up to 10% as the news broke.

While the newly identified flaw has caused some delivery delays, Airbus confirms that aircraft already in service are safe and unaffected. The defect is limited to a specific batch of panels, and all new production now meets required standards.

The company has apologised for the disruption and says it is working closely with suppliers to prevent a repeat of the issue.

Bitcoin has suffered a sharp decline, falling more than 7% and slipping to $84,555 — its lowest point in over a week. After a brutal November where BTC shed more than $18,000, its biggest dollar drop since mid-2021, investor confidence is wavering. Analysts say multiple pressures, including negative ratings for major stablecoins, are amplifying bearish sentiment across the market.
