Immigration remains one of Americans’ top issues heading into the 2024 presidential election.

The United States’ southern border has been overwhelmed by historic numbers of illegal migrants coming into the country.

In 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection says it recorded more than 2.4 million encounters at the Southwest border and more than 3.2 million encounters nationwide.

This includes 169 individuals on the terrorist watchlist who were apprehended attempting to enter the country illegally, and at least 1.7 million known gotaways who have evaded apprehension since 2021.
