Gaza’s sole power plant shutdown deepens Palestinian concerns

Hospital low on supplies, people trapped under rubble as the bombardment continues

Gaza residents are bracing for a looming humanitarian crisis as the sole power plant in the region has been forced to shut down due to a critical shortage of fuel.

The situation has raised concerns about the availability of essential services, including healthcare, sanitation, and water supply.

The power plant, which had been operating at a reduced capacity in recent months, ceased operations yesterday, leaving the densely populated Gaza Strip in a state of darkness and uncertainty. The primary reason for the shutdown is the crippling blockade and fuel restrictions imposed on Gaza, significantly limiting its ability to secure fuel supplies.

As temperatures drop with the arrival of autumn, the lack of electricity is affecting not only the daily lives of Palestinians but also critical infrastructure, such as hospitals and sewage treatment plants. Hospitals are struggling to maintain vital equipment and refrigerate life-saving medicines, while sewage treatment facilities are at risk of overflowing, posing a public health hazard.

Residents of Gaza are left wondering when, or if, the power plant will be operational again, as international calls for the easing of the blockade continue to go unanswered.

A recent analysis reveals a jaw dropping surge in the cost of American homes.

Since the start of 2020, U.S. home prices have surged 47% easily outstripping the gains seen in recent decades.

On top of that, home price growth so far this decade is on the verge of surpassing all the growth seen in the 2000s.

Many experts believe this decade’s housing market frenzy was ignited by a perfect storm — the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic triggering an unprecedented rush among buyers.

Tom Hutchens, the Executive Vice President of Production at Angel Oak Mortgage Solutions joins Veronica Dudo to discuss.
