Belarus has long been the little brother to Russia. But Lukashenko’s role in the aftermath of the Wagner rebellion could see his soft power grow

Belarus has been one of Russia’s strongest supporters over the course of the war in Ukraine.

The smaller western neighbour has allowed Russia to station troops and move them through its borders throughout the conflict.

It has also begun storing some of Russia’s nuclear arsenal in recent months.

When the Wagner Group begun their rebellion against the Kremlin, it was Belarus’s President, Alexander Lukashenko who allegedly brokered the deal which saw the group’s leader call off the action in exchange for charges of mutiny being dropped.

It was recently confirmed that Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner Group, has recently arrived in Belarus.

For Lukashenko, this could give his soft power in the region grow. #russia #putin #featured
