This strike is occurring after failing to reach an agreement for higher pay with global streaming giants such as Netflix and Disney

Thousands of film and television writers are on strike, protesting outside studios from Los Angeles to New York.

The Writers Guild of America has called its first work stoppage in 15 years, after failing to reach an agreement for higher pay with global streaming giants such as Netflix and Disney.

Late night shows such as ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ are set to immediately stop production.

New episodes will not be available during their traditional TV timeslots or via streaming services.

Besides pay – the Guild wants safeguards to prevent studios from using artificial intelligence to generate new scripts.

Writers also want to ensure they are not asked to rewrite draft scripts created by A.I.

Their last strike lasted 100 days and cost the California economy more than $3 billion.
