Barry Humphries is reportedly ‘cracking jokes’ in hospital, contradicting earlier reports he is ‘unresponsive’

Barry Humphries, best known for his alter egos Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson, is awake, alert and “cracking jokes” with the nursing staff.

Claims Australian entertainer Barry Humphries is in an “unresponsive state” have been rejected by the Sydney hospital where he is staying.

The family of the iconic Australian entertainer had rushed to his bedside amid concerns his health is deteriorating.

This comes just days after Humphries was readmitted to Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital due to complications following hip replacement surgery in February.

ABC radio reported he had gone into an unresponsive state.

Earlier reports suggested Humphries’ pain was beginning to increase so his medical team gave him more morphine.

As his health took a turn, sons, Oscar and Rupert, travelled from London to be by his side along with his daughter, Emily, who he has been estranged from for two decades.

It’s believed the pair only reconciled at his hospital bedside after more than 20 years of friction. #trending #featured
