Connor Sturgeon opened fire and killed five of his colleague moments after the message was sent to his parents

The mass shooter who killed five people at a U.S. bank texted his parents just a minutes before gunning people down.

The 25-year-old man’s final message was a text to his family, saying: “I love you”.

After sending the message, Connor Sturgeon stormed into the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky, with an assault rifle and opened fire, killing five of his colleagues.

Sturgeon’s parents said in a statement that their son had been struggling with mental health issues, saying: “there were never any warning signs or indications he was capable of this shocking act”.

This follows reports the gunman left a voicemail to a friend saying he felt “suicidal” and planned to “kill everyone at the bank,” where he was about to be fired.
