The death toll from the devastating train crash in Greece has now risen to 57 as rescue and recovery efforts continue.

One of ten coroners working on the investigation says DNA has been taken from 57 intact bodies.

A Red Cross worker aiding these efforts spoke of the sheer level of chaos and sadness at the crash site.

This comes as a government minister says the Greek economic crisis in the 2000s led to a lack of investment in the nation’s railways.

Rail workers held a strike on Thursday following the disaster, blaming the collision government negligence.

In Athens, more than 2,000 people protested for a second day, demanding real change and action.

The United Nations has also offered its condolences to the victims’ families and says it will do whatever it can to support Greece.
