‘Tragic human error’ caused Greece’s worst train crash

The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, says ‘Tragic Human Error’ caused the country’s worst train crash

At least 43 people have been killed after a passenger train and freight train collided in Greece.

Police say at least three of the derailed cars caught fire.

The local stationmaster has been charged with manslaughter.

The man denied any wrongdoing and attributed the accident to a possible technical failure.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis has resigned, saying it’s impossible to continue after something so tragic.

He says he is taking responsibility for the failures of the Greek state.

Right now, rescuers are continuing to search for survivors at the scene near the city of Larissa.

The search will continue overnight and there are currently dozens of firefighters and specialist disaster response teams.
