House Speaker McCarthy and his Republicans won’t budge on the debt ceiling

Republicans and Democrats are in deadlock over the U.S. debt ceiling.

Now, House Speaker, Republican Kevin McCarthy is calling on Joe Biden to compromise and agree to spending cuts.

It comes just hours before Biden is set to deliver the annual State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress.

The White House has previously stated it will discuss spending cuts with Republicans, but only after the ceiling is lifted.

On the other side of the coin, Republicans will only budge on the debt limit if Biden’s democrats agree to cut spending.

Thankfully – the two sides say they will continue to talk despite the disagreement.

But McCarthy has delivered a very public plea to the President.

The House Speaker says “it’s time to get to work”.
