The person found dead inside a white cargo van belongs to the suspect in the California mass shooting

Local reporters from American news networks have seen a body in the driver’s seat of the van, noting bullet holes in the driver’s side window, before the SWAT team entered the vehicle.

The Los Angeles Times is now reporting that “multiple law enforcement sources” said that “the driver had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound”.

The suspect opened fire and killed at least 10 people, and injured several others.

The shooting incident occurred at a dance studio in Monterey Park, as people were celebrating the Lunar New Year on Saturday night local time.

Earlier today, a law enforcement tactical team moved in and started searching a white cargo van.

One officer was seen breaking the passenger side window, then reaching inside and opening the door. Officers then opened the side doors and started searching the vehicle.

Officers heard what they believed was the sound of the driver shooting himself during a standoff that started after officers pulled the van over.

This follows a standoff between the shooter and the police, in a nearby neighbourhood, with Police entering the white van.
