Revolutionary French film director, Jean-Luc Godard has died at the age of 91

Godard’s career took off in the 1960s with his flick ‘Breathless’ rewriting the rules of cinema. He influenced fellow directors including Martin Scorsese to Quentin Tarantino.

The family say he died peacefully by assisted suicide in Switzerland.

His legal advisor says the voluntary departure followed ‘multiple illnesses’.

French President Emmanuel Macron says Godard “had the vision of a genius” and he became a master of French cinema.

Macron went onto say his country has lost “a national treasure”.
