Pilots suspended for mid-flight brawl

Two Air France pilots have been suspended for a physical altercation in June

The pilots of an Air France jet reportedly grabbed each other by the collars after one was hit in the cockpit of a flight earlier this year.

The violent affair took place after takeoff on a flight from Geneva to Paris.

It’s understood several flight attendants had to get involved, and one crew member was forced to stay with the pilots for the rest of the flight.

The ordeal was part of an internal investigation about the overall culture at the French airline. It found pilots lack rigour when it comes to respecting safety policies.

The report follows several similar cases between 2017 and 2022, where pilots reportedly acted personally rather than following on-board safety procedures.

The French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety—the nation’s air investigation agency—also uncovered the details of another flight, which experienced flight control problems.

The aircraft was landing in Paris at the time, but the pilots “simultaneously made inputs on the controls” during a go-around for a second attempt.

The report found the mid-flight brawl did not impact the rest of the flight, as the aircraft made a safe landing back home.
