The “Netflix effect” is enticing western women to look for love in South Korea

New research has revealed western women are heading to South Korea in the hopes of finding true love, all thanks to to hit Korean Netflix shows.

Researcher Min Joo Lee began investigating why an unusually large amount of western women are in the country.

She conducted hundreds of interviews with females predominately in their 20’s. In conclusion, she found one common thread- Korean men.

The women spoke of the “Netflix effect” after watching popular shows that depict the men in the country as “romantic, patient and in touch with their emotions.”

In particular, Netflix’s ‘Crash Landing On You’ series has women going crazy for the men portrayed in the drama.

It follows Korean television series experiencing a major uptick from global audiences over the last two years.

The country is also home to many successful K-Pop sensations, with an impressive global female fan base.
