Over 300 pride marchers detained in Turkey

Turkish police have used teargas and pepper spray to halt a pride march in Ankara

At least 36 people have been detained in Turkey’s capital for marching during Pride Month.

The marchers were reportedly dragged across the ground before being handcuffed and put into buses.

It comes a week after more than 300 people were detained for a similar event.

The gatherings are banned in cities across the country for security reasons.

Among those arrested at last week’s march in Istanbul were journalists and 34 people under the age of 18.

While homosexuality is not a crime in Turkey, there have been widespread crackdowns on pride marches in recent years.

But the nation’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Islamist-backers have recently toughened their stance on gay rights.

Japan has also taken a tough stance on LGBTQ+ rights, with the nation recently banning gay marriage.

Trump claims Iran’s military largely neutralized; tensions rise with attacks threatening air travel and oil shipping.

President Trump says Iran’s military capability has been largely neutralised, including its navy and air force, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Iranian attacks have threatened commercial air travel and oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of wider economic fallout.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has faced two attacks, while Gulf states worked to intercept further Iranian strikes. Officials report six U.S. troops killed and more than 700 deaths inside Iran as the exchange of fire escalates.

With global markets watching closely, the region remains on edge as military and diplomatic tensions show no signs of easing.
