Macron’s majority leadership at stake

Published

on

French President Emmanuel Macron is putting up a tough fight in parliament, pushing to win an absolute majority

Macron’s alliance was neck-and-neck with the hard left’s Jean-Luc Melenchon’s bloc.

Estimates show that Macron’s Ensemble alliance will win between 260 to 300 parliament seats, needing only 289 seats to hold the majority.

The left is forecasted to secure around 170 to 220 seats.

As the country faces an economic crisis amid inflation, rising costs of living, and stagnant wages, Macron is struggling to lead the country through.

Many have criticised the President for focusing more on protecting the wealthy than those in need.

A majority will be needed for Macron to pass his reform agenda which includes a pension reform that would allow the French to work for longer, saving France’s public finances.

The left is opposing these reforms and is pushing to reduce the pension age and for more spending.
