Maximum fine handed to Rust film for major safety failures

Published

The film production company behind Rust is being ordered to pay the maximum fine over the fatal shooting by a prop gun involving actor Alec Baldwin

New Mexico’s Environment Department says Rust Movie Productions must pay close to 137,000 dollars for failing to follow safety guidelines.

It released a scathing report of safety failures in violation of standard industry protocols.

The department says that production managers took limited or no action to address two misfires onset prior to the fatal shooting.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed in October last year when a gun Alec Baldwin was holding fired and shot her.

The actor, who was also a producer on the film, has previously said he did not pull the trigger and has no idea how a live bullet came to be on the set.

Also documented in the occupational safety report were gun safety complaints made by crew members that were ignored.

The company said it disagreed with the findings and would appeal.

Trump claims Iran military neutralised as Strait Of Hormuz tensions surge

Trump claims Iran’s military largely neutralized; tensions rise with attacks threatening air travel and oil shipping.

President Trump says Iran’s military capability has been largely neutralised, including its navy and air force, as the conflict in the Middle East intensifies. Iranian attacks have threatened commercial air travel and oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of wider economic fallout.

The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has faced two attacks, while Gulf states worked to intercept further Iranian strikes. Officials report six U.S. troops killed and more than 700 deaths inside Iran as the exchange of fire escalates.

With global markets watching closely, the region remains on edge as military and diplomatic tensions show no signs of easing.
