Riots turn violent in Swedish city of Norrkoping

Riots in the Swedish city of Norrkoping have turned bloody after protestors were hit by police bullets during a clash between the two groups.

Three people have been injured during the demonstration which was sparked by the Quran being burnt in several Swedish towns over the Easter weekend.

Some towns saw counter-protestors attack police even before the planned right-win extremist protests.

The country’s Prime Minister has spoken out against the violence.

Police have released an online statement declaring that three people “seem to have been hit by ricochets and are now being cared for in hospital. All three injured are arrested on suspicion of crime”.

The situation seemed to have subsided by Sunday evening.

Clashes between police and protestors have lasted for days with multiple police officers being injured and a number of vehicles torched as a result.
