Olympics star Sebastian Coe has called on Sports federations to maintain their bans on Russian and Belarusian athletes

The two-time British Olympic champion runner is the president of World Athletics and says it is important to keep these nations from competing in the sport in retaliation for the invasion of Ukraine.

This comes only days before the start of the World Indoor Championships in Serbia – in which both Russia and Belarus are banned from competing.

Coe says “There’s not a single sports federation out there that naturally wants to exclude teams or individuals. That’s not something that we came into the sport for”.

But insisted that “this is such a game-changer, and, yes, it will set precedents”.

This comes after Russian and Belarusian athletes were banned from dozens of sports since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last month.
