The Secretary-General of the United Nations is urging Lebanese leaders to put people first and make reforms to the country’s financial depression

Antonio Guterres met with Lebanon’s President to discuss how the world body can help the country to overcome its ongoing crisis.

Lebanon is in the grips of its worst social crisis in 30 years, plagued by COVID-19, and a blast that killed over 200 people last year.

He says that reforms are needed to put Lebanon back on track, including efforts to promote accountability and transparency.

Successive governments have repeatedly failed to implement the reforms needed to fix the nation’s finances.

UN agencies have warned of a drastic deterioration in living conditions.
